What is a Pre-EHC Plan?

A Pre-EHC Plan (also known as a SEN Support Plan or My Support Plan) is used to support children and young people with special educational needs before applying for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC).

What is it for?

To understand a child’s needs and strengths.

To record support already in place.

To track progress and set goals.

To decide if an EHC assessment is needed.

Who is it for?

Parents or carers

The child or young person

School staff

Any health or care professionals already helping

What does it include?

Views of the child and family

Strengths and areas of need

Support strategies and progress

Professional input (if available)

Why is it helpful?

It ensures early support, shows what’s been tried, and helps make a strong case if an EHC is needed later.
